TMT 105: Exodus 33:01 – 33:11

Exodus Ch. 33 (NIV)

1Then the Lord said to Moses, “Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of Egypt, and go up to the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ 2I will send an angel before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. 3Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people and I might destroy you on the way.”

4When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn and no one put on any ornaments. 5For the Lord had said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go with you even for a moment, I might destroy you. Now take off your ornaments and I will decide what to do with you.’ ” 6So the Israelites stripped off their ornaments at Mount Horeb.

7Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the “tent of meeting.” Anyone inquiring of the Lord would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp. 8And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose and stood at the entrances to their tents, watching Moses until he entered the tent. 9As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses. 10Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshiped, each at the entrance to their tent. 11The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.

  1. Hello, a quick and short reply for your question since you wanted someone to write in on the show about if Jesus spoke to God . He also spoke to Satan but nobody wanted to know about that.

John 12: 20-36 Jesus talks to God and asks God to Glorify God’s name and people hear it.

Matt: 26: 39-42, Mark 14: 35-36, Luke 22: 42-44 All are verses dealing with Him praying in the garden before he’s betrayed asking for the “cup to be taken from him” Many say this is Him trying to get out of being crucified but that’s what He’s here for, to lay down his life. It makes no sense for Jesus to change the narrative now. If He’s crucified it opens up salvation but the next step when He comes back would be God’s cup of wrath with the Day of Judgment, etc. He’s asking for another way to bring salvation without (for the lack of a better phrase) all the hell fire and brimstone we read in the prophets. Those who love God will be saved but those who won’t, eh, tough times but like Moses trying to save everyone He is too but this is the only way.

    The cross question in class:

Jesus did not speak to God on the cross. A good indictor is how Jesus spoke in reference to God as He always called Him, “Father.” I forgot the name of gentleman in your class but yes the line “my God, my God why hast thou forsaken me?” was said. Again like I said earlier it goes against the narrative of why He was here. You even have some Christians who say He thought God forsook Him. However many Christians see the crucifixion prophesied in Psalms 22 as we see David as a Prophet.

Jesus quotes the opening line bringing your attention to it. It talks about piercing hands and feet; people mocking Him for believing in God so let him deliver Him now; His thirst; the casting of lots for His clothes; and it ends with “He hath done this” or “It is finished”, which was Jesus’ last words.

Of course that’s just one guy’s belief. The church I study with still follow the food laws because they are…Laws and Jesus never did away with those but people like to teach He did but that’s a different subject for a different time. Sorry for the long post! Have fun editing It’s never fun when I have to do it on my podcasts.

Thanks so much for your comments and insights! I’ve read the Christian Bible but I can’t say I’ve truly studied it, so thanks for your help.
Thankfully, I’m too busy and lazy to edit my podcasts. What you hear is pretty much unedited. I just clean up the quality of audio to help it sound better through your speakers. In the early days I needed to edit a lot (mainly ambient noise, coughs, book slams, etc.) Now I use a zoomh4n along with a lavaliere mic and things are much easier. And once I get it on my computer I run it through this program Levelator, and it does most of the work for me.
      Thanks again for your help!
      God bless 🙂
