TMT 198: Genesis 9:1 – 9:7 pt.2

Genesis 9
1And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. 2The fear and dread of you will fall on every living creature on the earth, every bird of the air, every creature that crawls on the ground, and all the fish of the sea. They are delivered into your hand. 3Everything that lives and moves will be food for you; just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you all things. 4But you must not eat meat with its lifeblood still in it. 5And surely I will require the life of any man or beast by whose hand your lifeblood is shed. I will demand an accounting from anyone who takes the life of his fellow man:

6Whoever sheds the blood of man,

by man his blood will be shed;

for in His own image

God has made mankind.

7But as for you,

be fruitful and multiply;

spread out across the earth

and multiply upon it.”

    Good as always. The quote is from G. K. Chesterton. “When people stop believing in God, they don’t believe in nothing, they believe in everything.”

    I thought you might also like his quote about fences. “There exists in such a case a certain institution or law; let us say, for the sake of simplicity, a fence or gate erected across a road. The more modern type of reformer goes gaily up to it and says, “I don’t see the use of this; let us clear it away.” To which the more intelligent type of reformer will do well to answer: “If you don’t see the use of it, I certainly won’t let you clear it away. Go away and think. Then, when you can come back and tell me that you do see the use of it, I may allow you to destroy it.”

      Thanks so much! GK Chesterton is truly a treasure. I love the fence quote. I had heard or read it before, but had forgotten the details. Again… THANK YOU!
